🤔 BEST TIME TO TRAVEL TO CANTABRIA
The best time to travel to Cantabria is from July to September, when the weather is pleasant and there is very little rainfall. Those who prefer to avoid crowds of tourists on beaches, in museums, and along nature trails, and thus enjoy their trip more fully, should definitely choose September as their travel date to Cantabria.
✔ WHAT TO DO IN CANTABRIA
The best way to explore Cantabria is by renting a car, traveling from the interior to the coast. Take the Fuente Dé cable car to enjoy the Picos de Europa mountains or hike in the national park. Don't miss the "Neocueva" (a replica of the original cave, which is closed to the public) in Santillana del Mar. While you're there, take the opportunity to visit this charming village. Visit the beaches of Somocuevas, La Arnía, and Covachos to experience the breathtaking beauty of Cantabria.
🌮 YOU CAN'T LEAVE CANTABRIA WITHOUT TRYING IT
Here are 3 recommendations of typical Cantabrian dishes that you should try:
1. Sorropotún: a bonito stew served with potatoes, green pepper (not the choricero pepper used in marmitako), rustic bread, tomato and red onion.
2. Mountain stew: It is prepared with cabbage, meat (chorizo, blood sausage, ribs, bacon) and white beans, and as you can imagine, it can revive even the dead! It is typical of the Cabuerniga Valley area.
3. Cheeses: such as the small cheeses from the Liébana valley (which are prepared with whole cow, sheep or goat milk, and have a semi-hard texture), the Picón cheese from Bejes-Tresviso (a white cheese with some blue parts, perfect for spreading and as the name says… it has a spicy touch), and the Cantabrian cheese (or cream cheese, white and creamy).
👁🗨 CURIOSITIES OF CANTABRIA
The Echo Wall, in Ramales de la Victoria, was a filming location for the series Game of Thrones. Nearby is the Covalanas cave, with remarkably well-preserved paintings dating back 20,000 years.
A spectacular cut in the mountain, highly sought after by climbers but also enjoyable for fans of less intense sports, such as hiking, or even for those who want to reach it by car without much effort.
